Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 5: Against the Odds

Activity 1: National Treasure [4 points]
Personally, I treasure a trumpet because it is really important for me to look after because it is history to my family. I actually don't know when my family got the trumpet but all I know is that it went from generation to generation until now. My family mostly plays instruments. So I am grateful that we have this trumpet.

Activity 2: Swimming to Safety [4 points]
Yusra and her older sister were in Syria where the war was. They quickly took off with a journey to find safety in Europe. In 2015, they went through Lebanon to Turkey before departing for Greece in an overcrowded dinghy. They went on a boat but, after 15 minutes the engine of the boat failed. Yusra was a professional swimmer, she made sure that none of her fellow passengers drown. Yusra, her sister and 2 other people jumped off the boat and swam for 3 & 1/2 hours to stop the dinghy capsizing, will saving 20 other people. A year later, Yusra's courage, determination and strong swimming skills were known by the International Olympic Committee, she then became a member of the first ever Refugee Olympic Team. She competed at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, helping to represent 65 million displaced people in the world. Sine then, Yusra has addressed the United Nations General Assembly and met world leaders like Us President Barack Obama and Pope Francis. She presented with a number of awards and she has been known for her work by Time and People magazines. Yusra now lives in Berlin, Germany and is concentrating on her swimming career. She aims to compete at the next Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. Her message of hope, determination and courage reminds us that those who flee their countries are capable of achieving great things.

My mum works at home. She sews pacific clothes but mostly Tongan clothes for other people.
My mum's work at home has actually impacted my life and my family. My dad was the only one working for us but now my mum is helping him by working here at home. She inspires us to work like her. So I love that my parents are working hard for us to eat and get warm.

2. In 2005, Venus won Wimbledon in what was the longest women's final in history
3. Men are paid more than women

Activity 2: What's in a Name? [4 points]
Hmm, What would I change my name to? If you're wondering, I actually won't change my name.
I would leave my name what it is because I love it. And even if I was allowed to change it I wouldn't. It was my parents that named me so I am grateful and I really appreciate them for naming me Tufui. So yeah, I wouldn't change my name.

Summer Learning Journey: Week 1: Day 3: Team Players

Activity 1: Rugby Superstars [4 points]
If I had 3 superpowers it would be:

1. Super Speed
I want to have Super Speed because I want to be fast and I want to save people who are in danger somewhere far and I could just run fast.

2. Strength
The second power I want to have in Strength because if someone is stuck under something heavy I could help them by lifting them up.

3. Teleportation
The last power I want to have is Teleportation because if I need to be somewhere fast I could teleport there fast. I could also save people and to sneak out whenever I want. (But I actually won't sneak out)

Activity 2: Defying the odds [4 points]
If I had to interview out of LeBron James and Steven Adams I would interview Steven Adams, and I would ask him these 5 questions.

1. Ever since you were little was it your dream to become a basketball player?
2. Who taught you how to play basketball?
3. Were you inspired by someone?
4. Would you want little kids to grow up and be a basketball player?
5. Do you have goals that you need to achieve next year or the following year?

Activity 3: Achieving our Dreams [6 points]
For this activity I asked my 9 year old brother (Minerva) what he wants to be when he is older and he said that he wants to be a Rugby Player because it is his favorite sport.

Activity 1: Flying Solo [4 points]

Activity 2: One Small Step For A Man [4 points]
Moon, Moon, Moon
Your a friend of mine,
I like when you brightly shine,
As I walk peacefully I see the earth bright and green,
When I jump I see squeaky clean,
You feel like my TRAMPOLINE!

Activity 3: Miracle on the Hudson
If you know me, I am a loud and noisy person but I am not that brave. My best-friend was getting bullied from these girls and I felt sorry and I had to do something about it. In my head I was saying "Tufui you have a mouth say something" but I was scared that they might bully me but my friend was the one in trouble. So I stood up for her and I told the girls to leave my friend alone and stop being mean. When we arrived to school they went and my friend went home. For the first time I felt brave and I should keep on doing that.

EMR DAY AT GOAT ISLAND

EMR AT GOAT ISLAND

It was so fun at Goat Island yesterday. Me and my friends got into the black van and Mr Walker drove us there. It was boring because it was 1hr and 30min drive there, but the view made it better because the mountains where everywhere. I felt happy and bored at the same time. We went up and down hills and finally we got there. We got out and the breeze hit us right there. After a while the bus arrived and we all sat down in our swimming togs. Sophie our group leader and her helper talked about the safety rules. The first group was Ocra's while they were snorkeling the rest of us went to the rock pools. It was so cool because there were holes and inside was salt water with sea snails. Also what was cool was we saw a eagle ray swimming underwater. Finally it was Sharks turn. We got our suits and fins also our masks on. We went down in our groups of 4 and we grabbed our board and we went swimming when I looked underwater I saw snappers and other fishes swimming. We went further and there were lots of seaweed when it touched me I was scared so I never looked down until we got near the shore. I finally swam on my own because I wasn't scared. After that we had lunch and we got ready to go back to school. We got changed and got back in the van and then we left. We slept on the way and it was a long drive. We got to school at 3.50pm and I missed the beach and the memories we had there.

I learnt that rubbish in the water kills our marine life and that is why our fishes are dieing also people over fish and our fish get less.

Life In The Blue Sea

The ocean produces over half of the world's oxygen and absorbs 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere. Around 70% of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans. The world's oceans contain enough water to fill a cube with edges over 1000 kilometres (621 miles) in length. Ocean tides are caused by the Earth rotating while the Moon and Sun's gravitational pull acts on ocean water.
