What is Matariki?
Matariki is the Maori New Years. It is a time for regeneration and celebration in New Zealand that begins the rising of the Matariki star clusters.
Why is it important?
The cluster was important for navigation and timing the the seasons in traditional times. It is also about spending time with family and celebrating a new year. It is also the harvest festival where the Maori feasted on the crops they had prepared.
